Greatest Showman Star Wants to do a Sequel to HIT Movie

The world may not yet be done with The Greatest Showman, and actress Michelle Williams has joined the ranks of those who desire a sequel to the 2017 movie musical. Williams sat down with Vanity Fair to discuss her career dating back to her appearance in Lassie in 1994.

Williams shared with Vanity Fair the impact of The Greatest Showman and the mass appeal of the film, which loosely adapted the life of P.T. Barnum. Williams said of the film, “It feels good. Those songs come on the radio and I’m singing them. I hear it in the grocery store and I want to dance to it. The Greatest Showman sequel. Part 2– c’mon! …That movie makes you feel good. People love it. Kids love it. Grownups love it. I love it. More please.”

The Greatest Showman is the hit movie musical starring Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zac Effron, Zendaya, Keala Settle, and Rebecca Ferguson. Music and Lyrics for the film came courtesy of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the Oscar, Grammy, and Tony-winning composers famous for their work on La La Land, and Dear Evan Hansen.

Showman is very loosely based on the life of P.T. Barnum, the entertainment mogul, and visionary who created “The Greatest Show on Earth.” Critics of the film have cited many anachronisms and blunders, but fans haven’t let that stand in the way of their desire to see more.

There are no firm plans for a sequel yet, but Jackman and now Williams have expressed their desire for more. Williams has previously told Variety that she desires to make more “Showman”, “I wish they’d make a sequel. That movie brought so much joy to so many people and to make people that happy, man that is a worthwhile thing to spend your time doing. I really love that movie. My daughter Matilda sang those songs. My mom is still listening to that soundtrack. I love making things for kids that are full of joy and positivity.”

Until then, we’ll just have to settle for watching the one and only “Greatest Showman” endlessly on Disney+ until word of a sequel arrives. Do you think Showman deserves a sequel? Let us know in a comment.
