Haunted Mansion Holiday is back at Disneyland Resort and it is spookier than ever! Traditionally the Manor gets a Christmas makeover this time of year, including nods to one of Disney’s favorite frightening tales, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. The decor is whimsical and festive, and it always includes its very own gingerbread house, a 19-year tradition. This year’s edition is particularly special because it honors the Haunted Mansion’s 50th-anniversary celebration, which is currently taking place: the gingerbread house is a miniature version of the Mansion!
Cute edible versions of some of our favorite haunts (15 of them in all) decorate this massive treat: we recognize some hitch-hiking ghosts immediately, as well as unusually quiet busts from the graveyard scene. The design is meant to be as intricate and faithful to the original as possible. But the theme is not the only thing that makes this gingerbread house unique, the size is also remarkable: it stands nearly 10 feet tall! It was made by a team of 6 pastry chefs and took 13 days to build and decorate. The house is composed of over 30 pounds of gingerbread, 75 pounds of powdered sugar, 120 pounds of frosting and icing, 140 pounds of fondant, and 3 gallons of egg whites. Not your average holiday treat!
This is a Disneyland-only event, which means our friends in California will be the ones enjoying the macabre merriment. If you’re ready to start the haunted holidays right and check it out for yourself, the Manor will be decked out from September 6th, 2019 until January 6th, 2020. And don’t forget to ”Hurry back!”
