The Artist Behind Gideon’s Bakehouse’s Iconic Look Is Moving On After More Than a Decade

One of the creative minds responsible for the unmistakable gothic charm of Gideon’s Bakehouse is turning the page on a new chapter. Michael Reyes, better known to fans as Mr. Eyes, has announced that he is stepping away from Gideon’s Bakehouse after more than 10 years helping shape the beloved brand’s spooky identity.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Reyes reflected on his journey with Gideon’s, explaining that he joined the company when it consisted of just two people. Over the years, his role expanded from creating logos and branding to designing the distinctive artwork and atmosphere that helped make Gideon’s Bakehouse, including its wildly popular Disney Springs location, a destination all its own.

Reyes described the decision as bittersweet, saying he poured “every ounce of my soul” into the project but felt it was time to focus on his own personal growth and future creative endeavors. He also thanked Gideon’s founder Steve Lewis for believing in his vision and allowing him to help build the brand into what it is today.

The announcement comes not long after Reyes also officially closed his longtime personal brand, Terribly Odd, which had been creating gothic-inspired artwork and collectibles since 2003. Earlier this year, he explained that rising costs, limited time, and declining sales made it impossible to continue operating the brand independently. Rather than disappearing completely, many of those creations and future projects will now fall under his Mr. Eyes identity.

Fans visiting Gideon’s Bakehouse at Disney Springs will instantly recognize Reyes’ influence. From the eerie portraits lining the walls to the hauntingly whimsical packaging and atmospheric storytelling, his artwork has become as much a part of the Gideon’s experience as the famous half-pound cookies and towering cake slices.

At this time, Gideon’s Bakehouse has not publicly commented on Reyes’ departure or announced whether another artist will take over the brand’s creative direction. While guests can still enjoy the same immersive atmosphere during their visits, many longtime fans are taking a moment to recognize the artist whose vision helped make Gideon’s one of Disney Springs’ most unique destinations.

Whether this marks the end of an era or simply the beginning of a new creative chapter, fans will undoubtedly be watching to see what Mr. Eyes creates next.
