The ICE exhibit returns to the Gaylord Palms in Orlando. The theme for the 2013 season is Frosty the Snowman! I had a chance to go to a preview of one of my favorite Christmas events and I am happy to share it with all of you!
This year Luminescence, which is a stage show that combines live music, singers, lights, and acrobats, showcases old traditional Christmas songs as well as some new modern upbeat songs. Thru the show a male and female acrobat (as well as a lively drummer) takes to the sky for some amazing feats that go along with twinkling lights. The actual ICE exhibit showcases one of my favorite child hood shows, Frosty the Snowman. Thru two million pounds of ice, follow the story of Frosty as he transforms in front of the kids and tries to help Santa. Included in the 9 degree weather is four ice slides for the kids (and kids at heart) to enjoy. My two favorite parts of the experience are the Artisans in Action area that showcases the actual Chinese Harbin artists carve in front of you. Lastly, the nativity scene comes to live thru brilliant clear ice.
Jackets are provided, however long pants and closed toe shoes are required. I highly recommend bringing hats and gloves due to the harsh environment. No worries if you get cold though, hot chocolate and cupcakes will be available for purchase after exiting the ICE tent. Also this year you can get your photo with Santa, or make a gingerbread man with Gingy from Shrek! To see a video preview of all there is to experience at The Gaylord Palms at Christmas is located here.
Now for the big details! How do I get to ICE and how much is it? Ice is 29.99 plus tax for adults ages 13 and up at the box office. There are also multiple discounts for seniors, children, advance online purchases, being a Florida resident, and also being a Marriott Rewards Member.Click here to go to the pricing page! The actual Hotel is located at 6000 West Osceola Parkway, Kissimmee Florida. This is just a few miles from the Walt Disney World Property. The hotel also offers shuttle service to and from the Walt Disney World Resort. Call the hotel for more details. Onsite parking is 18.00 Dollars a day so make sure to keep that in mind.
I personally love Christmas time, and for me, the ICE experience put me in the Christmas spirit. It was nice to see a theme that I related to, since I watch the story of Frosty every year. Also the breathtaking nativity scene will be something that I will never forget. Seeing the story of how this amazing experience came, and actually seeing the Harbin sculptures makes me appreciate the hard work and dedication it took to bring this experience to Orlando. Once again, the Gaylord Palms have outdone themselves to bring a little bit of Christmas to everyone here in Orlando! Make sure to check it out when you’re in town!
