Rohde, who will be honored as a Disney Legend at the D23 event on August 11, 2024, shared his thoughts on being recognized for his work. He expressed surprise and humility at the honor, emphasizing the team-based nature of his accomplishments. Known for his instrumental role in creating Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Rohde credited Michael Eisner for the initial idea and highlighted his role as a chief spokesperson and negotiator, ensuring the park’s vision came to life.

Rohde also reminisced about his involvement in major expansions, such as Expedition Everest and Pandora – The World of Avatar. He recounted personal joys and challenges, from research trips to the Himalayas for Expedition Everest to the initial skepticism and eventual triumph of bringing Pandora to reality. His memories of working with industry legends like Jon Landau and James Cameron further underscored the collaborative spirit of his projects.

Additionally, Rohde discussed the inception of the Disney Conservation Fund, a critical element for Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s legitimacy, which has since donated over $125 million to global conservation efforts.
