Former Disney Animator and Painter Wayne Thiebaud Has Passed Away at 101-Years Old

We are saddened to report that former Disney animator and famed painter Wayne Thiebaud has passed away at the age of 101. Wayne was an apprentice at Walt Disney Studios before his time in the Army during World War II, after the war Thiebaud returned to Disney and became an animator for the studio. Notably, Thiebaud has work on display in several museums including the Art Institute of Chicago, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim, and the Smithsonian.

Eleanor Acquavella, one of the co-owners for the Aquavella Gallery, told The Associated Press of his passing which occurred on Christmas Day. A statement from the gallery partially read: “Even at 101 years old, he still spent most days in the studio, driven by, as he described with his characteristic humility, ‘this almost neurotic fixation of trying to learn to paint.” Wayne is survived by two daughters, a son, and six grandchildren.
