There’s news today of an unfortunate incident at Walt Disney World Resort. An Orlando man struck an Epcot security guard when he was reminded to follow the theme park’s facemask rules. The Orange County sheriff says this is the first known crime report involving such a confrontation at Disney World.
“We expect guests to treat our cast members with courtesy and respect, and while the vast majority of guests have adapted to our new measures, this unfortunate case required law enforcement,” Disney spokeswoman Andrea Finger said in a statement.
The incident started over an issue of the guest and his family wearing “improper masks” to enter the park. It started as a heated argument and escalated from there. According to the report, three witnesses observed the altercation and said they saw Toro become “irate,” use profanity and hit the guard.
The 35-year old Enrico Toro is facing charges for striking the guard on the head and threatening to kill him. The affidavit says it led to Toro’s arrest on August 14th.
Orange County spokeswoman Despina McLaughlin said officials weren’t aware of any other violent incidents stemming from people refusing to wear masks in the county.
Thankfully the Disney security guard has no injuries from the attack. However, he is pressing charges due to the nature of the offense.
