🎭👷 First Permit Filed for ‘Monsters, Inc.’ Land Transformation at Former Muppet*Vision 3D Theater*
It’s official—construction is going full scream ahead at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Walt Disney Imagineering has just filed the first permit for work on the former Muppet*Vision 3D theater, marking a major milestone in the transition from Muppets Courtyard to the upcoming Monsters, Inc.-themed land.

The permit, filed July 1, is a Notice of Commencement for “general construction” at the address of the MuppetVision theater. While it doesn’t specify what kind of work is happening just yet (inside, outside, or both), it confirms that progress is underway. The contractor listed? PCL Construction Services, the same team already working on demolition at the neighboring Stage 1 Company Store.
🧪 Say Hello to “The Glob”
According to concept art, the Muppet*Vision 3D theater will soon be rebranded as “The Glob,” a clever nod to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre but with a Monstropolis twist. While Disney hasn’t revealed what attraction (if any) will go inside The Glob just yet, signs in the concept art tease phrases like “Welcome Humans” and “Meet Monstropolis,” hinting at a possible immersive show or walkthrough experience. Expect a new marquee, fresh décor, and plenty of monster mayhem.
🍕 Familiar Spaces, Monster Makeovers
The transformation doesn’t stop with the theater. Other Grand Avenue staples like PizzeRizzo and Mama Melrose’s are also being repurposed into themed dining locations for the new land, while the Stage 1 Company Store is on the chopping block and will be completely demolished.

🎢 Behind the Scenes… A New Monster Coaster
Elsewhere in the Courtyard and backstage areas, construction is already well underway for the new Monsters, Inc. door coaster, which will be Disney’s first-ever vertical lift coaster and also its first suspended coaster. The final curtain fell on MuppetVision 3D* on June 7, 2025, and while fans are still mourning the loss of this Jim Henson classic, excitement is building fast for what’s coming next. With construction fences rising and permits in hand, the Monsters have officially moved in.
