North Carolina Nonprofit Brings Firefighter’s Family to Walt Disney World for a Well-Deserved Break
Rewarding Responders, a North Carolina–based nonprofit dedicated to honoring first responders and their families, recently hosted its annual First Responder Family Vacation at Walt Disney World, giving one deserving family the gift of rest, connection, and a little pixie dust.
This year’s honoree, Captain Brian Boom of the Thoroughfare Volunteer Fire Department in Eastern North Carolina, was selected after numerous nominations from fellow firefighters and community members. Known for his dedication, resilience, and compassion, Captain Boom has served his community with distinction — and now, thanks to Rewarding Responders, he and his family enjoyed a fully paid vacation filled with unforgettable Disney memories.

The organization covers every aspect of the trip — including park tickets, lodging, meals, travel, and even keepsake souvenirs — to ensure that families can relax and focus entirely on time together.
“Our mission is very simple — to give back to those who give so much of themselves,” said Mallory Dumond, President and Founder of Rewarding Responders. “This trip is our way of saying thank you for the selflessness and compassion that first responders show every day.”
Rewarding Responders was founded after the loss of a local law enforcement officer, inspired by the desire to support families of those who serve under extraordinary stress and sacrifice. Through donations and partnerships, the nonprofit has continued to grow, with hopes to expand its reach so more first responder families nationwide can experience these all-expenses-paid getaways.

National First Responders Day will be observed on Tuesday, October 28 — a fitting reminder of the daily bravery and compassion shown by first responders across the country.
