Fantastic Sandtastic Weekends at Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin

Sandtastic

Fantastic Sandtastic Weekends have begun at the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Resort.  The sand sculpture, located on the beach area near the main pool, will be on display from August 26th through September 4th.  Sand Sculptors of Team Sandtastic will be on site conducting sand sculpting demonstrations both weekends.  This event is free and open to all visitors who wish to stop by and see the sand sculpture featuring many of your favorite iconic Disney characters.

Team Sandtastic has been at the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin since the early part of the week.  They have been preparing for the Sandtastic Weekends by working on their sand art sculpture in order for the fans to have something to see when Sandtastic weekends officially opened on Friday, August 26th.  The sand art sculpture is a work in progress and I plan to go by again next weekend to see how it all turned out.  I was amazed at how much they have already accomplished in just three short days.

Mark Mason, who is the owner and operator of Team Sandtastic, along with his team of sculptors, will be on hand to meet fans.  They will be conducting sand sculpting demonstrations August 26, 27, & 28 as well as September 2, 3, & 4.  Visitors are welcome to come by and observe as the sand sculptors build this amazing sand art sculpture.  There is no cost for this event.

One of my big questions for Mark Mason was, “How does the sand sculpture not just wash away in the rain?”  The reason for my question is that it was raining quite hard upon my arrival, and yet the sand sculpture maintained its form!  The answer is that the sand sculptors spray a mixture of Elmers Glue and water as they complete small sections of the sculpture.  Mark also informed me that the sand is like a dry sponge, the sand absorbs the water as it trickles down through the dense sand, and it would take a lot of long-term heavy rain to cause the sculpture to become washed out.

Team Sandtastic does not disappoint!  There are already a number of iconic Disney characters taking form in the sand.   Mark Mason assured me that we will see many more Disney characters before the completion of this amazing sculpture.  I saw Patriotic Donald come to life before my eyes, as created by sand sculptor Steve.  Minnie Mouse is nearly complete in her traditional polka-dot dress, gloves, and bow.  After all, what would Minnie Mouse be without her dots and bows?  Timothy Q. Mouse, from Dumbo, is complete and has his space just to the bottom right, of the central focal point, of the sand sculpture.

If you are in the Walt Disney World area between now and September 4th, you must stop by the Swan & Dolphin Resort to check out this event.  Come meet the Sandtastic Team, learn about how to create sand sculptures, and watch as this massive sand sculpture comes to life.  I can assure you that Sandtastic Weekends are Fantastic.  You will not be disappointed if you have to opportunity to come by and see this amazingly creative sand sculpture.
