Fans Want These Attractions Re-themed in the Disney Parks After Changes Were Announced for Splash Mountain

Fans Want These Attractions Re-themed in the Disney Parks After Changes Were Announced for Splash Mountain. In a historic move, Disney Parks announced that the Splash Mountain attractions in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World will be re-themed from Song of the South to The Princess and the Frog.

The choice to re-theme the attraction was partially inspired by a recent petition to re-theme the attraction after a surge in social justice movements around the world to end systematic racism. A heavy interest has been the misrepresentation of people of color within media for decades. The Disney Parks have always been keen on Walt’s “Keep Moving Forward” motto and have chosen to retheme many different attractions in the past to help save on costs while still giving guests new and exciting experiences when traveling to the theme parks around the world. It comes as no surprise that Disney would choose to change a problematic attraction based on the most controversial film from the company to date.

Despite support or complaints, change is coming to Splash Mountain, but some fans believe that is not enough and are calling for other attractions in the Disney Parks to be updated or rethemed as well.

Such attractions include: The Jungle Cruise, Peter Pans Flight, It’s a Small World, and Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.

Though the intentions behind the attractions initially were not to misrepresent cultures or POC and were intended to educate people on the beauty of diversity and entertain guests, the general consensus is that the attractions have not aged well since their inception and are due for an upgrade that either better reflects the people they represent or be removed and replaced with elements that do not rely on showcasing a people based on outdated stereotypes.

It will be interesting to see how Disney decides to move forward with these concerns and what changes may be in store for the Disney Parks. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for all things Disney Parks!

  1. There ws NOTHING racist about Splash Mountain. It was the best happiest ride in the park. Why do you cater to people who see racism in everything? Its make-believe for Pete’s sake. Maybe you can get rid of animal subjugation in the Dumbo ride while you’re at it.

  2. They need to stop writing these articles with the heading “Fans petition….” Fans want everything left alone. It’s the closet racists who see racism in everything who want these changes.

  3. This is going far enough. This anti-Disney crap is a nuisance. You know with the signatures that oppose the racist hypocrites, Disney people like the new Disney Parks Chairman, Josh D’Amaro might have everyone reconsider and end this nonsense and end this Anti-Disney. I think it was said that he would fix some negative influences of Disney World or other parks. That could also bring back Disney they way it was, including bringing back and keeping the old rides/attractions. Though it doesn’t mean they new ones would be removed, the old ones can be relocated in a new expansion or a fifth park. You know.

  4. Let’s not forget the Seven Dwarfs Mine Adventure. It has got to go as it’s offensive to midgets. Oops! Sorry, I meant Little People. Splash Mountain is not racist. The theme is based on Joel Chandler Harris’ book of stories. He used the name Uncle Remus as a composite of the different story tellers. These stories were a collection of tales given to him post civil war by freed slaves. These tales were brought over with them from Africa. It was part of their heritage. I guess Tom Sawyers Island will have to go. It does have ‘Injun Joe’s’ cave. Where does this garbage end?

  5. Couldn’t agree more with Marcus. Too many people nitpicking about every little detail. Pathetic.
Then again, maybe some people only want to get others triggered.

  6. This is just getting ridiculous. First Pirates. Now Splash Mountain (unless that other change.org petition with over 50,000 signatures can pull through #fingerscrosses) now these people are harping on every last thing. These hypocrites have been coming to Disney for years, supporting them and decide when they are offended by something and they are not. This entire anti-Disney has been so disheartening. Rachel Bloom is especially disappointing seeing her involvement as she was someone I really liked.
