Family Traveling to Disney World Turned Away from Airport Lounge due to Custom Disney Shirts

The Raikes Family’s journey from England to Orlando got off to an un-magical start this past week. The family of eight paid extra (about £700 or $900) to enjoy their pre-flight wait in Manchester Airport’s Aspire Lounge. However, their plans were quickly ruined when they weren’t allowed entry to the lounge because of their Disney-themed shirts.

As like many families visiting Disney World, they chose to make custom shirts for their visit and wear them on their international flight. The shirts said “Florida 2017” and “Familymoon” with a silhouette of the castle and Mickey and Minnie heads. They Raikes Family was informed that these shirts violated the dress code for the Aspire Lounge.

The Aspire Lounge dress code states “smart casual attire along with items such as non-sport shorts (i.e. smart shorts/cargo shorts), sandals and smart trainers, non-sport fashion tracksuits, hooded tops” are allowed. It also states they can deny access to guests wearing “clothing with offensive slogans, vest tops for men, football or rugby shirts, clothing with offensive slogans, fancy dress, or onesies.”

Swissport, who operates this Aspire Lounge, released the following statement: “On this specific occasion, the member of staff who dealt with the family was wrong to have asked them to cover their personalized T-shirts and has misinterpreted the dress code, which is designed to ensure a comfortable atmosphere for all guests within our network of lounges.” It was also stated that they employees would be “re-educated” on the dress code to ensure this does not happen again.”
