Something new is coming to ESPN Wideworld of Sports Complex in Summer 2020. The Electronic Gaming Federation (EGF) is bringing the excitement of esports to Walt Disney World. The 2020 Walt Disney World EGF High School National Championship will be a new milestone for Disney. It’s because this new high school championship marks the debut of esports events at Walt Disney World.
For those unfamiliar with esports, it’s a form of sport competition using video games. This summer’s championship will take place from June 12-14, 2020. The event will be held at The Arena at ESPN Wideworld of Sports Complex. The contestants will consist of students who qualified by winning in regional esports divisions.
The competition will be split among the three highly popular video games.
Gaming Divisions
- Super Smash Bros. (16 Teams)
- Overwatch (8 Teams)
- Rocket League (8 Teams)
The idea of esports joining Disney World is exciting to spectactors and gamers alike. According to Tyler Schrodt, the founder and president of EGF, “This will be a powerful final destination for our league which will generate even more excitement among players and families as they strive to qualify.”
