With the success of ABC’s “Once Upon a Time”, a spinoff is made. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the spinoff for “Once Upon a Time” is coming together quite nicely and they have decided to run with Once consulting producer Jane Espenson and Zero Hour‘s Zack Estrin. Epenson will continue her run as a consulting producer and Estrin will be an executive producer for the Wonderland-themed show.
The rest of the elite team that has been decided includes creators/executive producers Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz who are writing the pilot for the spinoff.
The teaser episode is set to be shown in April and that will help answer many questions people have about the direction of the spinoff. At PaleyFest when asked probing questions to get answers based on the spinoff being previously set to revolve around the Mad Hatter (who has been portrayed by Sebastian Stan on the ABC drama). Producers revealed at PaleyFest that they had “no plans” to recast anyone considering the actor’s busy schedule. The project is now set to take place in Wonderland.
Espenson, has quite an esteemed resume including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse, Warehouse 13, Torchwood and Caprica as well as YouTube hit Husbands.
Estrin’s resume has Zero Hour, The River, No Ordinary Family, The Good Guys and Prison Break to add to the impressive credits of this team.
Should the “Once Upon a Time” spinoff not move forward, Espenson and Estrin will develop original projects for the studio under their overall deal.
