disney 2012 #2 972

It’s always important to have a game plan when it comes to visiting the parks.  When I hit the parks I want to be prepared-not preoccupied!   I want to enjoy the offerings, especially special events that I can’t see on just any old ordinary Disney day (I’m wondering what day at Disney is considered “plain old” or “ordinary”…hopefully you get what I’m trying to say here!)

This week kicks off one of my favorite “limited time” events, EPCOT’s International Flower and Garden Festival!  EPCOT simply bursts to life as the unofficial start to spring is ushered in by magnificent topiaries,  exhibits, speakers, food, merchandise, and musicians!  There are literally petals, leaves, and blooms everywhere you look!  It is truly a breathtaking sight!

Today, we are taking a look at what you need to ” know before you go” in order to make the most of your visit to the flower festival!  Let’s get growing!

Capture it!

I can assure you that you will want to take pictures…and lots of them!  There’s nothing worse than going to snap a picture only to realize that your camera isn’t charged!  Make sure to check and charge your camera’s battery and memory card the night before you visit the festival.     The topiaries and displays really are magnificent and they make for beautiful pictures!  Don’t forget your camera or your smile!

Protect Yourself!

So, this one should be a no-brainer, but it is definitely worth mentioning!  Don’t forget to protect yourself from the sun!  Stashing a hat, sunglasses, and sun block in your park bag will make for a much happier camper!  Last year when we visited the festival, it wasn’t crazy hot out and  for a minute  I almost forgot to apply sunscreen.  Luckily I remembered before we made it out of our resort and I was able to run back in.  I’m glad I applied sunscreen, because I did get burnt on the top of my head (luckily nowhere else).  Also, if you are a migraine sufferer like me, you’ll want to make sure you bring your sunglasses or a hat because you will  be outside a lot, viewing the awesome displays throughout the park!

Hydrate!

You walk a lot at Disney, especially at the Flower and Garden Festival.  Make sure you drink plenty of water!  Stay hydrated so that you can really enjoy the festival’s offerings from sun up till sun down!

Medicate!

If you are a seasonal allergy sufferer, having an antihistamine (i.e., pill and eye drops) might be a good idea.  I’ve just recently developed seasonal allergies and I’ve realized the power of those little pills!  I also make sure to bring medicine for in case I do feel a headache or migraine coming on.  Too much sun is a migraine trigger for me and I would hate to ruin a perfectly good day with a migraine!

Think of your feet!

You’ll be doing a lot of walking (inside and out) for the Flower and Garden festival.  Appropriate footwear is HUGE at Disney!  Make sure you wear comfortable shoes that can endure a full day of walking around at the festival!

Map it out!

Knowing the lay of the land is always a good idea.  If you aren’t familiar with EPCOT and/or if you’ve never attended the Flower and Garden Festival, you’ll definitely want to know what this event offers.  The official Disney site offers a festival guide, complete with a detailed look at the festival, including a map with just about anything you need to know for the festival!  Knowing your options before you are in the park will allow you to make the most of your time at the festival.  Which leads me to my final suggestion…

Plan your visit!

Because the Flower and Garden Festival is open from March 6th to May 19th, there are a variety of offerings depending on what days you visit.  I highly recommend that you check out the festival guide to see what musicians, food vendors, speakers, and presentations are available and plan your visit (if you can) around those days.  This is especially important when making dining reservations.  Now, I know there are many people who don’t really care who/what is going on and that’s okay too!  A few years ago, I booked my stay on a week that worked for me.  I got to see awesome presentations, beautiful flowers, and Chubby Checker!  And let me tell you, that man has still got it!  Planning out your visit will make sure that you see what you want to see!

I hope this list of tips will give you everything you need to make the most of your time at  EPCOT’s  International Flower and Garden Festival!  Everything is so beautiful and vibrant!   I honestly don’t know if I could think of a better way to usher in spring!  So, what is your favorite thing about the Flower and Garden Festival?  Tell us in the comment section below!
