Epcot 2023 International Flower and Garden Festival World Showcase Japan Pavilion Gardens

Epcot 2023 International Flower and Garden Festival World Showcase Japan Pavilion Gardens. Let’s try something new this year, we are going to go through each land and let you know what is coming and what is there at each pavilion during Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival. Today we start off with Japan.

Japan will feature Shishi-odoshi which is a type of garden that has a water feature that makes noise to scare off critters like deer or rabbits. The water fountains are called Sōzu – a type of water fountain made of bamboo set on a pivot. Water flows into one side and tips and when it rebounds it makes a noise.

These fountains were originally intended to startle any herbivores, such as deer or boars, which might be grazing on the plants in the garden, but shishi-odoshi is now a part of the visual and aural design of gardens and are used primarily for their aesthetic value

As far as drinks go, the refreshing drink we enjoyed last year was Cucumber Cooler: Sake, vodka, and cucumber garnished with a cucumber slice
