Enjoying Chef Mickey's As An Adult Diner

Over the years, Chef Mickey’s has gotten a not-so-amazing reputation, mostly for the food not being great, and it also has become known as a place that’s really just for kids and families

Personally, I completely disagree with both of those statements – I happen to love the food, and as an adult I love going there and enjoying the atmosphere they have to offer.

So why should you, an adult who can pick any place in Walt Disney World to eat, choose to eat at Chef Mickey’s?

Well, there are definitely some really good reasons:

The Location – The restaurant is located in the beautiful Contemporary Resort, which is easy to get to from the Magic Kingdom, just hop on the monorail and you are there in minutes! The resort itself is amazing, I love taking a stroll around the pool/boating area, and I love their gift shops as well. Making an Advance Dining Reservation here for dinner on the day you’re planning to spend in the Magic Kingdom would be a great idea – a way to escape the Park crowds in a place that’s still close enough where you can head back for the nightly fireworks and more rides after you finish your meal!

The Food – Chef Mickey’s serves up a buffet style breakfast and dinner with some pretty delicious menu items. For breakfast you can expect all the classics (including Mickey waffles!!), plus breakfast pizza, cheese blintzes, and a larage assortment of fresh fruit, and for dinner you will find fresh soups (which change daily), Mickey shaped raviolis, a carving station (featuring items like ham and roast beef), and an assortment of mouth watering desserts – including warm bread pudding! I am not sure who started the rumor that the food here wasn’t good, as you can clearly see from just some of the above menu items, they have a lot to offer, and I have always enjoyed the food and thought it was fresh and tasty

The Characters – This may be the best part about dining at Chef Mickey’s – as it is the only restaurant at WDW where you can meet all of the ‘Fab 5″ in one place – Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, and Donald all work the room in their chef outfits, giving out hugs and autographs and posing for pictures. Now, I know what you may be thinking “I’m too old for that”, well, you are wrong – no one is ever too old for a hug from Minnie or to have their picture taken with Donald, it’s still fun and exciting no matter what your age! And while you may feel a little bit silly, ignore that feeling and just go with it, the characters are part of the Walt Disney World experience – one of the best parts!

The Atmosphere – The restaurant is big and open, and can be loud as it’s usually crowded, but the noise has never been that much of an issue here (in my experience anyway!), and it’s well lit but not too bright, and some of the tables by the windows have a decent view. The staff will go out of their way to help you celebrate (so be sure to wear your Birthday/Honeymoon/Anniversary/other celebration pins here!), and they are always polite and prompt. The best part of eating here and at other character meals is getting to see a kid (or an adult!) get excited about meeting their favorite character, the anticipation and then the look on their face when Mickey is in front of them, giving them a hug, is really priceless and it never gets old

Honestly, What could be better than getting to enjoy some great food in an amazing setting, and meeting and greeting characters, all while monorails zoom around above you?

I have been enjoying this restaurant since I was a kid, when it used to be located in Downtown Disney, and it has only gotten better with age, in my opinion! I will keep going here for sure, and someday I will bring my kids to meet Chef Mickey too!

So what do you think of Chef Mickey’s? Do you like it, and would you choose to go there with an adults-only party?

  1. I really like having a big breakfast late morning. No one else in my family are big breakfast eaters ;( . But, we did go here once and I’d definitely go back by myself someday….. 🙂

  2. We loved chef Mickey’s breakfast in early June. It was loud but super fun! Where else can you twirl your napkin like crazy!? The Buffett was massively good and they even had some brownies & rice Krispy treats. Have friend that takes her family every 3 years that’s their one place they go every visit! Met a mom & adult daughter that said chef Mickey is a must for them every visit. It was fun to roam around the contemporary afterwards too.

  3. Catie, we ate at Chef Mickey’s a couple of weeks ago for breakfast, and I loved it! The kids loved it, the adults loved it, and I would eat there in an adults only setting — but only if all of the people that want to eat there love Disney and love the characters. Also, I really feel like there is a distinct difference in the quality of the experience when you eat there for breakfast as opposed to eating there for dinner, but that’s just me.

    Thanks!
