Pixar’s Elemental Becomes Most Viewed Disney+ Movie Premiere of 2023
Things are starting to heat up over at Disney+ in the month of September. It has been an incredible month for subscribers to the streaming service. With titles like Ahsoka, The Little Mermaid, and Elemental, Disney fans are being treated to blockbuster releases this fall.
Elemental has achieved the distinction of being the year’s most-watched movie premiere on Disney+. It ranks among the top 10 movie premieres of all time on the platform, garnering an impressive 26.4 million views within its initial five days of streaming.
This cinematic gem, helmed by director Peter Sohn and produced by Denise Ream, with executive production by Pete Docter, unfolds in the captivating realm of Element City. In this unique world, denizens representing Fire, Water, Earth, and Air coexist harmoniously.
The narrative centers around Ember, a sharp-witted and fiery character voiced by Leah Lewis, whose friendship with the easygoing Wade, brought to life by Mamoudou Athie’s voice, challenges not just her perceptions of their world but also her own identity.
Remarkably, Elemental’s initial five days of streaming have marked it as the most-viewed animated movie premiere since the release of Disney and Pixar’s Turning Red in March 2022. It has also claimed the title of the most-watched Disney+ movie premiere in Latin America, narrowly surpassing Turning Red.

The film, released in June, has not only enjoyed streaming success but has also excelled in theaters, amassing a global box office revenue of $484 million. It boasts an impressive 93% Rotten Tomatoes Verified Audience Score and an “A” CinemaScore. Notably, domestically, Elemental surpassed expectations by grossing $154 million, a remarkable achievement considering its initial domestic opening weekend earnings of $30 million.
This performance places it second only to Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story (1995) in terms of multiplying its opening weekend revenue. On the international stage, the film achieved immense popularity, with a strong presence in South Korea, where it became Pixar’s most-watched film in the country.

The screenplay for Elemental was crafted by John Hoberg & Kat Likkel and Brenda Hsueh, with the story originating from the creative minds of Sohn, Hoberg & Likkel, and Hsueh. Complementing this exceptional storytelling are the talents of Ronnie del Carmen, Shila Ommi, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Catherine O’Hara, Mason Wertheimer, and Joe Pera, who lend their voices to the film’s captivating characters.
