‘Dog Man’ Fetches Box Office Glory with $36M Opening Weekend!

Move over, Mufasa—there’s a new top dog at the box office! DreamWorks Animation’s “Dog Man” had a tail-wagging debut, raking in a whopping $36 million over its opening weekend, making it the biggest movie premiere of 2025 so far. Based on the beloved graphic novel series by Dav Pilkey, this crime-fighting canine’s first big-screen adventure is already proving to be a hit with audiences, who gave it an 86% Popcornmeter verified audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

A Bark-Worthy Box Office Run

With a modest $40 million production budget, “Dog Man” is already on track to be a major win for DreamWorks and Universal Pictures. It’s also marking a strong start for family-friendly films this year, following the trend set in 2024 when PG-rated movies dominated the box office. The film’s only slight setback? A soft overseas debut, with just $4.2 million from 29 international markets—but there’s still plenty of time for this pup to find its footing worldwide.

While “Dog Man” ruled the box office, the horror-comedy “Companion” also impressed, scaring up $9.5 million for a second-place finish. Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King”, which had been top dog (er, lion) in January, still held strong in its seventh week, adding $6.1 million to its massive $653 million global total.
