So many people seem to think that Downtown Disney is only shopping and true, there is allot of shopping to be had here, but there is so much more! From movies and bowling to food and entertainment!
Food for one is a big part, we seem to always schedule a trip to DTD by where we want to eat…If you are just here to shop till you drop and want to grab a quick snack then you could choose from Pretzels and Fried Candy Bars at Wetzel’s Pretzels and Cookes of Dublin or how about candy and sweets galore then stop at Goofys Candy Company, the Candy Cauldron or Ghiradelli Soda Fountain, they should do the trick.
Counter service’s here will give you many choices from sandwiches to gourmet pizzas at Earl of Sandwich and Wolfgang Puck Express or maybe you will be in the mood for chicken or the new chili or meatball cones…well then you need to stop in at Pollo Campero or Marketplaces Snacks and pick those up. Come for dinner and you can sit down and dine with Dinosaurs and movie stars at T-Rex and Planet Hollywood or how about dining on a riverboat at Fultons Crab House. Then again you may want to be wild and dine in the jungle if so the Rainforest Cafe is where you need to go. Have a song in your heart and a tappin’ in your toes then sing along at the House of Blues and do some toe tappin’ at Raglan Road! As you see there are allot of choices for every taste!
Wanna play for the day, then DisneyQuest is where you can get your game on! High tech games and ride simulators are the norm here, from calm and cute to you might want a motion sickness pill, is the range. Even non-gamers can have a fun filled day here, but be warned you may plan on staying and hour or two and before you know it… four hours have gone by in no time!
Maybe you want a game but bowling is more your style then head on over to Splitsville! Not only bowling will take center stage here, you can play pool, listen to music or maybe even catch some live entertainment. They also offer a full menu that can be delivered to you while you bowl! They also offer over 21 nights Thursday – Saturday on the second floor.
Take in a movie or do dinner and a movie at the AMC Downtown Disney 24. Six of the twenty four theaters offer The “Fork & Screen Theaters” plus there is a Bar and lounge that also offers drinks and a full menu if you would like to dine before the movie!
Cirque du Soleil-La Nouba is a completely immersive combination of circus and theatrical presentation combining elements of modern dance, staging, humor and acrobatic stunts. This show will make you laugh, think and amaze you! You will be entertained from start to finish.
Take to the water and rent Sea Raycer’s, Canopy Boats or Pontoon Boats Located at Cap’n Jack’s Marina, most rent for 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Specialty Cruises and Bass Fishing Excursions are also available from this location.
Maybe taking to the open sky sounds more like fun to you then try the Characters in Flight balloon ride! The tethered balloon flight offers a bird-eye view of Downtown Disney and the surrounding area, a beautiful sight during both day- and night-time excursions.
There are many other ‘extras” that you can see and do in DTD, like stage shows and dancing to playing at the Lego Imagination Center! So take a day and enjoy all Downtown Disney has to offer!

For me, DTD *is* a must-do. It gets me excited to be there before we get in the parks. I love the energy in the Market place. Beware though, it is REALLY crowded on the weekends, and can be difficult, if not frustrating, to navigate with a stroller.
Earl of Sandwich is an absolute must do, and is one of, if not THE best deal on WDW property for a delicious, affordable meal. I can never finish a whole sandwich, and always take the leftovers home to have the next day.
I also wish they had more vending machines since there is little shade, and it’s really hot there in the summer.
We consider it a must-do, and visit at least once, twice if possible, during each WDW vacation. And even if you aren’t in the market to spend $$ on merchandise or dining, the atmosphere itself is really enjoyable!…even for the kids! You’re right – it’s a “don’t miss!”
LOVE Downtown Disney – Especially the market place. Did the AMC eat in theater thing and that was SO MUCH FUN definitely would do that again. I’d love to try out the new bowling alley also. But I have to say Disney Quest I found a bit disappointing. But Downtown is definitely on the must list!
