DIY Disney Drinks – ‘Ohana’s Lapu Lapu at Walt Disney World

lapu

Lots of folks think that Walt Disney World is just for kids, but that definitely not the case – and especially so when it comes to the drink menus at their amazing restaurants – they are full of fun adult drinks, with someone that everyone can enjoy!

‘Ohana is located at Disney’s Polynesian Resort and is one of the most popular Resort restaurants on property. Why, you might ask? Well, they serve up family style breakfast and dinner (family style = all you can eat!) with classic menu items in the morning like Mickey Waffles, eggs and bacon, and a slightly more tropical fare at night – BBQ’d meats and stir fried veggies and noodles are some of the highlights of the meal (Check out their full breakfast and dinner menus)

One item you will find on the dinner cocktail menu is the Lapu Lapu – a tropical rum drink that is served in a real hollowed out pineapple – how cool is that?! If you are not lucky enough to be dining at ‘Ohana anytime soon, then I suggest you whip up a batch of these at home (pineapples are optional, but they definitely make the experience more authentic!)

Lapu Lapu Recipe:

Ingredients

1. One part Bacardi 151 or plain light rum

2. One part Myers dark rum

3. Two parts orange juice

4. Two parts sweet-n-sour mix

5. Pineapple (optional)

Directions

1. Combine the first four ingredients, and shake over ice

2. Serve in hollowed out pineapples (or a glass with a colorful umbrella, if no pineapple is easily accessible)

3. Enjoy!

The great thing about this recipe is that it can be adjusted to serve 1 or a crowd! And if someone in your family is more into whiskey, then they can still stay with the tropical vibe by making the Backscratcher, another ‘Ohana cocktail featuring Jack Daniels

Oh, and if you’re hungry after slaving over those pineapples, I suggest you whip up a batch of Honey Coriander Chicken Wings – a star off the ‘Ohana dinner menu that will go perfectly with those drinks

  1. I want to know how to recreate the juice they serve at the breakfast, that stuff is amazing! Being a type 1 diabetic I can only have one small glass when I go, it’d be nice to have a small glass here and there at home too. 🙂

  2. im going to Ohana for breakfast so I cant try this when I am there. so I guess I just have to make this on my own at home.

  3. I so miss the Polynesian Resort. I haven’t had a chance to stay there since high school. Hope to again soon! May have to serve some drinks in a pineapple shell, too 🙂

  4. Yummy, great way to get my Disney fix…of course it would be a lot nicer being at Disney World enjoying this 🙂 (next trip is Dec and it seems sooooo far away)
