Since 2003, the Disney Wild About Safety program has been providing resources to families and teachers to help develop an impactful safety curriculum for classrooms and students worldwide. The award-winning multilingual Disney Wild About Safety program has reached more than one billion families over the last 15 years.  To celebrate this achievement, Disney invited more than 60 Osceola County Public School students from Thacker Avenue Elementary School for International Studies and Central Avenue Elementary School to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park for a hands-on day of learning.

“Learning works best when learning is fun,” said Tajiana Ancora-Brown, director of external affairs at Walt Disney World Resort. “Bringing some of our community’s youngest members out to Animal Kingdom to observe environmental safety and animal behavior allowed them to observe real-world impacts of their lessons learned.”

Disney’s The Lion King characters, Timon and Pumba, serve as program ambassadors and mascots.  The dynamic duo teaches students how to be safe at home, at play, or even a theme park through a curriculum that includes activity books, an animated video series, and illustrated safety tip cards. It is believed that the work being done today by teaching students to make wise safety decisions, will make a positive impact on these students’ lives for years to come.

“There’s something special about bringing students out of the classroom for an educational experience,” said Dr. Debra Pace, superintendent of the Osceola School District. “And when that place is Disney, their excitement and eagerness to learn is amplified tenfold.”
