‘The Black Cauldron’ Live-Action Remake Is In The Works. In the trend of Disney Live-Action Remakes, it appears Disney is looking to resolve past mistakes by giving some of their biggest financial and theatrical flops a second chance on the big screen or potentially on their new streaming service, Disney Plus (Disney+).

One flop that nearly destroyed the studio in 1985 was Disney’s The Black Cauldron. After Walt’s passing in 1966 the studio struggled to create films that did nearly as well as the films Was Disney himself oversaw. The first few years after Walt’s passing included projects he had a voice in before his health became his primary concern and seemed to do okay, but after the last of his projects had reached theaters and television the studio struggled to create films that resonated with audiences in what is commonly referred to as the Dark Ages of Disney. The release of The Black Cauldron nearly ran the studio bankrupt after the $44 million dollar project only generated $21.3 million at the box office.

Walt Disney Animation was saved by the earnings of Disney’s The Little Mermaid and entered a phase called the Disney Renaissance and has since cranked out hit after hit at the box office, with a few failed projects in-between.

For those who may not be familiar with Disney’s The Black Cauldron, check out this synopsis by Google: “In the land of Prydain, lowly pig herder Taran (Grant Bardsley) dreams of becoming a gallant knight. Young Taran receives his heroic calling when the evil Horned King (John Hurt) kidnaps Hen-Wren, a prophesying pig that had been entrusted to Taran. Now, with help from his furry sidekick Gurgi and Princess Eilonwy, Taran must locate the magical black cauldron before the Horned King is able to use its mystical powers to summon an army of the undead.”
