Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Construction Expands to the Main Lobby
If you have a visit to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort on the horizon, you might notice some major changes at the Great Ceremonial House! Construction is officially in full swing as Disney begins a refresh of the resort’s iconic lobby and exterior.

Massive scaffolding now covers a significant portion of the back exterior of the Great Ceremonial House. The metal framework stretches several stories high, reaching up toward the monorail beam and the resort’s distinct roofline.
To keep the guest experience as seamless as possible, Disney has placed rolling planters and construction barriers along the walkways to guide guests safely around the work zones. Signs are posted throughout the area with the familiar “Pardon Our Dust” message, thanking guests for their patience as the resort is “refurbished for your future enjoyment.”

While the work is extensive, the Polynesian’s famous dining and lounge locations remain accessible. Here is what you need to know if you’re heading to the resort soon:
- Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto & Tiki Terrace: As shown in the images, construction is happening right next to the Tiki Terrace. While the area looks a bit different with plywood and scaffolding nearby, you can still grab your favorite tropical concoction—just follow the directional signs.
- Captain Cook’s: Clear signage is in place to direct hungry guests to the entrance of Captain Cook’s. Be sure to look for the yellow-and-black directional arrows near the construction walls.
- The Lobby Experience: Inside the Great Ceremonial House, construction walls have gone up to facilitate the interior refresh. While this does change the “vibe” of the lobby temporarily, the check-in desks and monorail access remain functional.

This lobby refurbishment is part of a larger multi-year transformation at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. From the recently updated guest rooms to the construction of the new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, the resort is leaning into a fresh, modern aesthetic while keeping its beloved mid-century Tiki charm.
While we don’t have an exact completion date for the lobby work just yet, the scale of the scaffolding suggests a significant update to the building’s exterior and lighting.
