Disney’s Magical Express Luggage Delivery Service no longer provided

Complimentary airport transportation via Disney’s Magical Express service for Guests arriving and departing from Orlando International Airport is continuing to operate during this period, with some modifications.

Beginning July 16, 2020, luggage delivery service will not be provided for those arriving to and departing from Orlando International Airport. Guests who choose to use Disney’s Magical Express will be responsible for picking up any of their checked luggage from the airport’s baggage claim area and taking it to the motorcoach so that it can be loaded for transport to their Disney Resort hotel. Please know that Guests’ luggage will travel with them to their Disney Resort hotel.

Luggage assistance will be available at the front of Disney Resort hotels, including luggage storage and/or transport to the room. Upon their departure, Guests should ensure their luggage is with them and loaded onto the motorcoach so they can check it in with their airline once they reach the airport. The resort airline check-in service will not be offered at this time.

Guests will be notified of these changes prior to departing their home locations.

So if you are flying to Disney World remember to grab your luggage and take it with you to your Disney Magical Express bus.

  1. Then who’s loading luggage on and off the magical express busses? Probably Disney staff who will be touching the same amount of bags that were previously delivered to the rooms. I doubt people will be loading their own luggage onto busses (as was previously done by the driver with carryons). With park capacity significantly reduced Disney has to think of ways to reduce costs and offset drastically reduced revenue. By eliminating an entire fleet of vehicles and the staff specifically used to transport and handle luggage the cost savings are significant. Blame it on health and safety reasons (which is the original driver for the original reason for all the closings), but the main reason for this specific change is budgetary. I’m sure you’ll dig in and disagree, but name calling fellow Disney vacationers as “entitled” is not respectful.

  2. I think it also has to do with health and safety because it’s forcing the staff to go out into the airports, when FL already has a HIGH number of COVID-19 cases, and it also is causing them to touch luggage, and cross-touch other people’s baggage. Would they be wearing different gloves with each new bag they touch, etc? These are all things to consider.

  3. I don’t see this as a “health or safety issue”. I see it as a “budget issue”. Disney will continue to handle luggage and place them on and off the magical express busses, but they will be eliminating a huge expense by not separately transporting millions of visitor’s bags to their room while not maintaining the overhead to do so.

As far calling people “entitled”, I disagree. Disney’s luggage service has always been a great perk as it saves a lot of time by allowing guests to bypass a crowded ticket counter at the airport on their way home. It has also allowed guests to take advantage of the airline check in service and let them utilize their last day of vacation by visiting a park or just having the peace of mind by knowing that Disney has handled everything, and all you have to do is jump on a bus (not to mention having your bags delivered directly to your room at the beginning of your stay). This is one of the many advantages Disney has come up with over the years to keep guests on property and immersed in the ‘Magic”.

I am one that hopes this is a temporary budget solution and will miss it on my next trip.

  4. Saw this shared on a Facebook group; don’t see why people are making a big deal about it. They are obviously doing it because of COVID and for health & safety reasons. If you guys can’t carry your own luggage, you’re too entitled and have bigger things to worry about!
