Disney’s Golden Oak ranch in Placerita Canyon, California has just received unanimous approval to expand the community in a meeting held by the Los Angeles County planning commission, according to officials.
The Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning hosted a public hearing regarding the project’s 58-acre development area.
The expansion plan calls for the addition of indoor sound stages along with support facilities on Placerita Canyon Road in Newhall. This location is found in unincorporated Los Angeles County, which is adjacent to the city of Santa Clarita.
“We completed the first hearing today,” said Kim Szalay, a principal regional planner of the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning.
The planning commissioners have approved two different version of the project. The first plan would involve the construction of 555,950 square feet of structures, while the second plan would involve the construction of only 510,000 square feet of structures.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors still have to vote for the project’s final approval within the next two or three months.
“The Board action will be the final action on the project,” Szalay said.
The Board will take into consideration the tentative map, which includes plans to create either 20 lots or 18 lots, respectively. The proposed plans also include a water tank area, trail area, two potential mobile home relocation areas, and a conditional parking area to be added to Disney’s approximately 890-acre Golden Oak Ranch.
One of the possible hindrances to the proposal is that it does require the removal of 158 oak trees as well as encroachment into the protected zone of 82 oak trees.
The Board’s final hearing will be open to the public, too.
“The public can participate in the hearing at the Board,” said Szalay “They can make comments.”
There has not been an announcement on when construction is expected to begin.
Disney’s Golden Oak Ranch has been part of unincorporated Los Angeles for more than 50 years.
