It was back to business as usual on September 4, 2019, as Walt Disney World was spared from the path of Hurricane Dorian. Cast members across the entire resort worked endlessly to prepare for the storm, including the Animals, Science and Environment Cast Members, who take care of all the animals. Now, they have to take care of one more.
Early Wednesday morning, Doppler, named after its post-storm arrival, made its debut. The gender is not yet known, but take a look at these pictures which were taken within a few hours after birth and the calf had already taken its first steps.
Mom and baby are bonding well and will remain backstage for a few weeks while the calf undergoes neonatal testing to determine height, weight, and gender. They will remain backstage for a few weeks before you are able to catch a glimpse of them on the savanna with the rest of the herd at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The birth of this calf is part of a species survival plan in partnership with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
