Disney's Animal Kingdom 20th Anniversary Celebration Review

Disney’s Animal Kingdom held their 20th Anniversary Celebration yesterday on Earth Day 2018.  The park featured a Welcome Celebration, a multitude of photo ops, specialty foods, UP! A Great Bird Adventure and the debut of the Pandora Utility Suit.   Here is our photo tour review of this special day.

The Welcome Celebration had a pre-show, speakers and some of our favorite characters.

Photo Ops are available all around Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park for its 20th Anniversary Celebration and the Party for the Planet that celebrates Earth Day and beyond.  New Magic Shots can be found with most Disney Photopass Photographers.  You will also find hand-held props featuring a variety of animal species to recognize the Party for the Planet and the Disney Conservation Fund.   The entrance to the park featured a larger than life 20th Anniversary Celebration photo op on April 22nd.

Specialty foods included the Chocolate Earth Day Cupcake and the Vanilla 20th Anniversary Celebration Cupcake.  The difficulty was in choosing just one!  Tiffins debuted a Watermelon Appetizer and the Impossible Earth Day Slider with Yucca Fries.  Restaurant-osaurus has the Impossible Earth Day Burger with Avocado available for the duration of the Party for the Planet.

UP! A Great Bird Adventure opened today.  The show presents Russell and Dug along with some amazing birds.  The Bald Eagle was so majestic and the Peacock was beautiful.  There were some really funny chickens and a bird who could sing Old McDonald Had A Farm.

The Pandora Utility Suit meandered through parts of Pandora: The World of Avatar, delighting children and adults alike.  I mean, it is not every day that you will see something like this!

We journeyed to Rafiki’s Planet Watch aboard a sideways-riding train.  We found Doc McStuffins, a game called Match the Feces with the Species, and a display of prepared foods for a variety of animals who live at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

During the media portion of the 20th Anniversary Celebration event, we were able to speak with Joe Rohde, Portfolio Creative Executive of Walt Disney Imagineering,  Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager, and Djuan Rivers, Vice President of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park.

Here is our video of Joe Rohde speaking about STEAM Education:

We also asked Djuan Rivers about the Evolution of Disney’s Animal Kingdom and he was kind enough to share his insight with us:

Now that Disney’s Animal Kingdom has reached its 20th year, we are excited to see what will be next for this beautiful park.  The new bird show, utility suit, photo ops and specialty foods are sure to draw in many guests with the desire to experience all that Disney’s Animal Kingdom has to offer.  The 20th Anniversary Celebration was a huge success and we look forward to future anniversary celebrations.
