California Governor Gavin Newsom continues to say that theme parks will have reopening guidelines soon. What exactly he means by “soon” is unknown.
Twitter user Scott Gustin posted today:
“Gov. Newsom talking about reopening theme parks:
“We will be making announcements soon as it relates to theme parks,” Newsom said.
He said he is not ready to make the presentation today, but is “actively working” to present that plan “soon.””

The ongoing Disneyland closure is starting to really hurt the city of Anaheim.
“The City of Anaheim is looking at a $100 million budget deficit that will be felt by people throughout our city,” said Mike Lyster, Anaheim Chief Communications Officer. Unemployment for Anaheim is at 15%. Anaheim businesses rely heavily on the Disneyland Resort.
Other businesses in Anaheim have been able to reopen with enhanced safety protocols. Disneyland needs the same opportunity to safely reopen.
“We need to see a road map for economic recovery. We need to see guidance for when the theme parks can open or else we risk creating a second crisis on top of the crisis of coronavirus with an economic downturn unlike anything we’ve seen,” Lyster said.
As of Monday, Disneyland officials had yet to receive a clear understanding from the state of when theme parks can reopen.
