Disneyland Ticket Prices 5,060% More Expensive Compared to 1955

A new study shows that Disneyland ticket prices have risen more than 5,000% since opening in 1955.

Play Like Mum, a mommy blog in the United Kingdom, studied the increasing costs of Disneyland admission prices over the past 60 years.

In 1955, a one-day ticket to Disneyland was only $2.50. A one-day park ticket today coasts $129. This is a 5,060% increase!

I am sure that we can all agree that the experience in the 1950’s and the experience at Disneyland today cannot be compared. In 1955, Disneyland only had one theme park with 33 attractions. Disneyland now includes two theme parks, three on-site hotels, and shopping and entertainment hub – the Downtown Disney District

Here’s what Disneyland officials had to say about the study:

“Our pricing reflects a full-day of family entertainment with world-class attractions and experiences. Over time, our pricing model has evolved, providing guests with a variety of ticket offerings to meet their needs, while helping us to spread visitation, better manage demand and deliver a great experience, like our new 14-acre Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.”

And I know what you’re thinking: INFLATION. But when you adjust for inflation, the $2.50 ticket in 1955 would still equal only $23.89 in 2019.

The 1955 Disneyland admission ticket price of $2.50 reflected the adult “Deluxe 15” ticket book. This book allowed guests to enter the park and ride 15 attractions.

Play Like Mum’s study also researched the rise in Disneyland ticket prices in the early days of its opening. By the 10th anniversary, ticket prices rose to $7.30. They remained at this price through the 20th anniversary.

Disneyland ticket prices continued to steadily rise to $16.50 in 1985, $31 in 1995, $56 in 2005 and $99 in 2015.

Do you think these prices are fair considering how much Disneyland has to offer now compared to 1955?
