The theme parks of the Disneyland Resort remain closed and reservations have been canceled through 2020. Now we are hearing that it’s expected Disneyland will remain closed at least through January 2021.
During Disney’s Fiscal Full Year and Q4 2020 Earnings Results webcast Disney CFO Christine McCarthy indicated that they anticipate Disneyland will remain closed through the end of the fiscal first quarter in 2021, or at least until January 2021.
The Disneyland Resort has been forced to remain closed until Orange County California reaches the state’s lowest COVID-19 risk tier. Currently, Orange County is hovering within a “Moderate” (2 – 4.9%) positivity rate but needs a 2% positivity rate or less to reopen under the Yellow or lowest tier. Orange County must meet each metric and stay in that tier for two weeks before transitioning to a lower tier.
Also during the Earnings webcast, Disney CEO Bob Chapek expressed that Disney is “extremely disappointed” that California continues to keep Disneyland closed.
