Paper drinking straws have been popping up at Quick Service locations at Disneyland Park this week. The earth-friendly straws were first spotted at the Red Rose Taverne, the Beauty and the Beast themed quick-service restaurant in Fantasyland. Paper stirrers were also spotted at the location.
The addition of the paper straws is a part of a larger Disney initiative to become more environmentally friendly. Back in July, Disney announces that by the end of 2019 they will eliminate single-use plastic straws and plastic stirrers at all locations. Disney estimates the reduction amounts to more than 175 million straws and 13 million stirrers annually.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park has always used the Earth-friendly alternatives to represent their commitment to conservation, as well as to benefit animal safety.
Now that paper straws have made their debut at Disneyland, we expect the rest of the quick service locations to follow suit, keeping the initiatives timeline. I for one, love Disney’s commitment to more environmentally friendly practices. Even though replacing two small items seems insignificant, any and every change is a step in the right direction.
