Disneyland is going to be the home to some scenes from a major movie, starring Tom Hanks as Walt Disney! As we reported last week, Tom Hanks is “becoming” Walt Disney for his role in “Saving Mr. Banks”. What we have just found out is Disneyland wil be filming portions of the back story of the making of “Mary Poppins” movie at Disneyland on November 6-7th. The film by Walt Disney Studios stars Hanks, Emma Thompson as book author P.L. Travers, and Colin Farrell as Travers’ father. The film will follow ups and downs Disney took to persuade Travers to let him do a movie based on her books; Mr. Banks is the name of the children’s father in “Mary Poppins,” and the character reportedly was inspired by Travers’ own father.
Disney will block off parts of the park and will be communicating the schedule and closed areas of the parks to guests when they arrive on those days. Disney is not confirming which actors would come to Disneyland and have warned visitors not to expect to see any stars or the set as it will be obstructed.
Since the movie is set in 1961, the movie production can not take any chances on filming regular park guests in the movie, so Disney has asked employees to apply as extras and will appear as Disneyland guests.
“Saving Mr. Banks” began filming last month and is due in theaters on Dec. 20, 2013.
How great would it be to see Tom Hanks riding the Matterhorn in Disneyland?!
