Disneyland experimenting with possible Drone Show

When Disneyland Paris celebrated its 30th anniversary earlier this year, a new nighttime show was introduced using drones. “Disney D-Light” has been very successful! Now, the Disneyland Resort in California is experimenting with using drones for nighttime shows.

During a round table media panel Disney Live Entertainment show director and writer Wendy Ruth said of the Disneyland Paris drone show, “We are looking at it and curious about how to do it. There are definitely experiments to be done with a variety of drones — in size, in what they do and their programmability.”

Ruth wouldn’t confirm if the use of drones will come to Disneyland in the future since the entertainment department is still just experimenting. She also explained how most Disneyland guests like what they know and don’t care for too much change.

“Here at Disneyland our guests don’t like to see a lot of change. They want what they know,” Ruth said. “But when we can do something like a ‘World of Color’ and surprise them and say, ‘You didn’t know that you wanted this. You’re still seeing those characters you like. You’re still hearing the music that you love. We’re just presenting it in a brand new way.’”

If Disneyland does end up getting a drone show, it would need to take into consideration Federal Aviation Administration rules as well as the impact the show would have on the nearby neighborhoods.

The Disneyland Resort recently brought back “World of Color” at Disney California Adventure and “Fantasmic!” at Disneyland. It would be really cool to see a new nighttime show, especially one using drones!
