Disneyland cancels Grad Nite for 2021

This year has been full of Disney closures and cancelations. Sadly, we have news that one more thing has been canceled. Disneyland’s Grad Nite for 2021 has been canceled.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Disneyland Resort has had to make some adjustments. The theme parks remain closed because of California’s strict reopening guidelines and Orange County is once again in the highest COVID risk level for the state. There is no reopening date in sight for the theme parks.

Downtown Disney, however, is open but has had to make changes to accommodate outdoor only dining.

We now know, thanks to @DisneylandTourGuide on Instagram, that Disneyland is canceling Grad Nite for 2021. According to the post, Disney sent out emails to schools that usually participate letting them know about the cancelation.

The email reads:

“With recently announced state guidelines that place opening large theme parks in the most restrictive tier, and public health officials indicating that Orange County likely will not reach that tier in the near term, we do not anticipate a reopening timeline in the foreseeable future and therefore we are unable to move forward with Grad Nite 2021. Given Grad Nite events require a substantial amount of planning and coordination—in addition to travel accommodations and fundraising efforts for your students months in advance—we felt that this was the right decision to make at this time.

We know how disappointing this news will be, and we thank you for your understanding during these challenging and unprecedented times. We look forward to celebrating your students in years to come.”

While this is a big disappointment, it does not come as a surprise. With the reopening of Disneyland so uncertain, events were bound to be canceled.

Hopefully, events like this can resume in the future.
