I heard about this rumor a few days ago.. The resort line of the monorails would no longer be running during Extra Magic Hours (EMH) at the Walt Disney World parks. Chris mentioned it yesterday on our Facebook Page to see what you guys thought about it.
It now seems that these rumors are becoming a reality.
Disney has now confirmed that the monorails will no longer run during EMH for Magic Kingdom and Epcot. They will provide extra bus transportation to help accommodate for the extra guest traffic.
Here is the official word from Disney:
From time to time, we make adjustments to our operations to accommodate for planned transportation maintenance. With that in mind, operating hours for the Epcot Monorail system will be modified to operate one hour after regular park close beginning July 11, 2011 and the Magic Kingdom Monorail system will also operate one hour after regular park close beginning August 1, 2011. At that time, watercraft (where applicable) and additional buses will be available to transport guests to their destination.
It looks like return service from evening Extra Magic Hours in the parks will be supported by watercraft and bus transportation. There is no word yet as to whether the Express Monorail to the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) will continue running into the late hours.

I also have 4 kids and agree with Susie. What’s the point of staying at a monorail resort ( the Contemporary for us) if you can’t use monorail service anytime the parks are open? Bad move on the part of Disney – especially during the busy summer months!!!

Not a fan of this at all
This is lame…No way would I want to take a boat if staying at a Monorail resort. I just dont get it…
This is very disappointing. The wait for buses after Extra Magic Hours is already difficult (especially with 4 kids). This is bound to make it twice as crowded.
OH NO!
