Pixie-Dusted Plates: Disney World License Tags Raise Over $5 Million for Make-A-Wish

The magic on Florida’s roadways is translating into life-changing wishes. The Walt Disney World specialty license plate has hit a spectacular milestone, raising over $5 million for Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida. This incredible fundraising effort has helped grant wishes for more than 600 children with critical illnesses, bringing hope and joy to families across the state.

The impact of the “pixie-dusted” state plate was recently felt by 10-year-old Maddie from Melbourne, who is battling leukemia. As a major fan of Disney royalty, her wish to spend a day with the princesses became a grand celebration, thanks in part to the support from the specialty license plate program.

A Disney Princess Wish Come True

A Disney wish is granted every hour of every day, and Maddie’s was a day filled with unforgettable adventure. Her royal day at Magic Kingdom began with a special welcome from Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Together, they enjoyed a ride on the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, searched for the mischievous chameleon Pascal, and played hide-and-seek throughout Fantasyland.

Maddie even got to display her inner strength by successfully pulling The Sword in the Stone—a feat her dad attempted but couldn’t quite manage. Her magical journey continued under the sea, where she met Princess Ariel and Prince Eric. The trio chatted about Ariel’s collection of “gadgets, gizmos, whozits, and whatzits,” but Maddie’s favorite memory was learning Sebastian’s signature dance move: the crab walk.

“This trip to Walt Disney World means so much to our family and Maddie,” her mother shared. “It’s so special to see her playing and having fun with her sister around the parks. I can tell she’s just so happy to be here and doing something fun outside of the hospital.”

How the License Plate Grants Wishes

The success of the Walt Disney World specialty license plate is a direct result of Floridians choosing to add a little magic to their vehicles. 100% of the proceeds from the plate purchases go directly to Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida. The local chapter then uses these funds exclusively to grant wishes for Florida children and their families.

Featuring the iconic Cinderella Castle atop a vibrant blue gradient background, the Disney plates have become one of the state’s most popular, ranking among Florida’s top 8 specialty plates and raising the momentous $5 million since its debut.

“We are so grateful for the Disney Specialty License Plate and how it helps grant wishes like Maddie’s—wishes that inspire hope, strength, and joy for the entire family during some of their darkest times,” said Anne Cuba, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida. “A Disney wish has the power to transform a child’s life. We always say that wishes are more than just a moment, they mark a turning point in a child’s journey and provide memories for years to come.”

The long-standing partnership between Disney and Make-A-Wish spans more than 45 years and has resulted in over 170,000 Disney wishes granted around the world.

Drive with a Purpose

More Disney license plates on the road directly translate to more wishes granted for Florida families. Florida drivers looking to support this incredible mission can purchase a Walt Disney World specialty license plate at any Florida DMV or local County Tax Collector’s Office (online or in person).
