Disney Files Permit for Contractor Lot at Animal Kingdom as Work on Tropical Americas Expansion Ramps Up
The transformation of DinoLand U.S.A. into the vibrant Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is moving full steam ahead, and Disney is making sure construction crews have everything they need to get the job done. A new permit filed with the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) reveals plans for a 10-acre contractor lot to support the ongoing development of the new land.

A Behind-the-Scenes Expansion
According to the details listed in the permit, the contractor lot will be located between Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Western Way and will feature parking, sidewalks, stormwater treatment systems, and drainage infrastructure. While this area won’t be accessible to guests, it plays a crucial role in ensuring construction teams have the necessary resources to bring Tropical Americas to life.
A New Era for Animal Kingdom
Disney officially broke ground on January 17, 2025, marking the start of the highly anticipated expansion. Tropical Americas will completely replace DinoLand U.S.A., with the beloved yet aging land being reimagined into the fictional town of Pueblo Esperanza. The new land will introduce fresh experiences and attractions, including a ride inspired by Disney’s hit film Encanto and the transformation of DINOSAUR into an Indiana Jones-themed adventure.
Both attractions are slated to open in 2027, bringing an exciting new era to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

With construction now in full swing, this contractor lot marks another step forward in the evolution of Animal Kingdom. While guests won’t see much happening behind the scenes, the groundwork is being laid—quite literally—for what promises to be one of Disney’s most immersive lands to date.
