Astro Orbiter May Soon Take Flight Again as Disney Files New Construction Permit

After months of quiet atop its launch platform in Tomorrowland, signs are pointing to liftoff once again for Astro Orbiter at Magic Kingdom. According to new filings, Disney has submitted a fresh Notice of Commencement, suggesting that the long-dormant reassembly process may finally be underway.

The newly filed permit uses the same description as the earlier dismantling phase—”Provide labor, material and/or electrical for construction”—and is once again assigned to Buena Vista Construction Company (BVCC). While it doesn’t specify exact timelines, this filing marks the most concrete progress since the ride system was fully disassembled earlier this year.

Photos from early February showed the entire structure removed from its elevated perch, with a large crane assisting in the process. That crane has since been taken off-site, but it is expected to return in the coming weeks as large components are brought back for reassembly.

Disney has yet to provide an updated reopening date, though the summer 2025 target still stands.

For fans of this high-flying Tomorrowland spinner, the return of activity is a welcome sign that the classic attraction will soon once again be sending guests soaring above the Magic Kingdom skyline. Stay tuned for further updates as Astro Orbiter gears up for launch. 🚀
