Selfie

Hiya! I’m baaack! I have been a busy little bee lately, did you read my about Deluxe Dining from earlier? There is lots and lots of gossip floating around Disney World lately. Today’s gossip is about the controversial, loved and hated, infamous selfie stick! I know some people love them and some people can not stand them. Chippy loves them, you know he is the selfie king! I suspect he is shedding a tear over this right now.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. You may remember we told you about selfie sticks being banned on rides and they are banned in all of Disneyland Paris. My sources tell me that selfie sticks are still a huge problem in all the parks, so Disney might be putting a stop to guests bringing them in the park. Meaning, you will not even get through security with one!

This is supposed to happen at the end of this month… I sure do hope so. Apparently there will be some guest relations CM’s at the front to assist security with the selfie stick dilemma. If you a guest does bring one in they will have a few options. They can choose to leave with it, or they can leave with guest relations and they will store it and give the guest a ticket so that they can pick it up when they are leaving.

*Update – It has been confirmed by Disney Execs that starting June 30th selfie sticks will be banned from both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts.

Anonymouse searches the internet, annoys cast members, and wouldn’t think twice about using a Ouija board to find you the freshest Disney Gossip. Some of what she’ll report is confirmed, some is based on information from the rumor mill, and some, frankly, she just read on the bathroom wall in Fantasyland. So take it with a grain of salt and have fun!

  1. Thank goodness! People are bad enough when they are at the theme parks, but with “selfie sticks” they become horrible!

As for “why” they are a problem (as David Wood asked). Well, let’s see. People don’t pay attention to where the stick is and hit other guests with them (been hit and seen other people hit). People using them on rides (and other places) and blocking the view of other people. My husband even saw an idiot the other day at Disney who was talking on her phone with her selfie stick attached and waving it around like she was the only person there.

People seem to forget that they are among thousands of other people and wave the sticks around, sometimes with iPads (not just cell phones) on the end of them, as if they were alone. I also heard a story about one person crying to a cast member that she had lost her phone off the end of the selfie stick on the Safari ride at Animal Kingdom – she wanted them to stop the ride right then and there and allow her to get off and look for her phone!

If people merely ask other guests or Cast Members, usually someone would be more than happy to take their picture (I do it all the time). Selfie sticks are dangerous.

  2. They are a bit of a hassle on rides because they extend beyond the car and will get knocked out of their hands by the rides, losing the stick, the phone, and possibly injuring other people in the ride.

  3. Would be helpful if you explained WHY they’re a problem *looks for another website covering this*
