It is being reported by Entertainment Weekly that Disney will not be rehiring James Gunn, despite the cast and fans outpouring support. Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, reportedly stands by Disney’s decision.
“It’s not an easy time,” Pratt said in a recent interview. “We all love James and he’s a good friend of ours, but we also really love playing the Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s a complicated situation for everybody.”
James Gunn has since deleted his Twitter account, but before he did he tweeted, “Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo. As I have discussed publicly many times, as I’ve developed as a person, so has my work and my humor.”
Gunn has been working on the script for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, and the movie was expected to begin shooting in Atlanta in the fall for an expected 2020 release date, though Marvel Studios had never officially announced the date.
