Disney Unsure of Moving Forward With ‘Lone Ranger’

Disney Unsure of Moving Forward With 'Lone Ranger'

Things are looking a bit grim for Gore Verbinski’s and Jerry Bruckheimer’s ‘Lone Ranger’ movie. Last month, Disney halted the production on the Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer starring project when the budget began moving over $250 million. All parties involved were told they had to get it down to $215 million or they wouldn’t do the film. After several weeks of tweaking the script and  many of the main players taking a pay cut, they got the film down to the budget Disney wanted. But now it seems it may not be enough, because it seems Disney is unsure if they should move forward.

Deadline is reporting the story, which paints a very uncertain future for the film. The site says that Verbinski won’t go under $215 million because then the movie no longer becomes what he wanted, and Depp will only make the movie with Verbinski at the helm. But Disney really isn’t sure if they want to move forward. There are many rumors circulating that Disney has began looking for a new director to bring the budget down even further. If Disney were to find a new director, then they would be out their lead actor, Depp, who has done very well so far for the company with four ‘Pirates’ films and ‘Alice in Wonderland’. I’d really like to see what Verbinski, Depp, and Hammer have planned for the film, so I’m a little disheartened by the news. So I’m hoping it all plays out right and we still get their movie.

What do you guys think, should Disney move forward with the movie as is, or should they just pull the plug altogether on the project?

  1. I agree with the sentiments here. Disney shouldn’t pull the plug because it really is a fun concept and it should do very well, considering Depp would be one of the leads in the film. The idea that the movie would be through the eyes of Tonto really is interesting as well and puts a new twist on the subject…Really hope Disney goes through with the project.
