Disney lays off nearly 200 employees with ABC News
The Walt Disney Company is conducting layoffs affecting nearly 200 employees across its ABC News Group and Disney Entertainment Networks, with the majority of the cuts impacting ABC News. The layoffs, which began Wednesday, represent approximately 6% of the total workforce across the two divisions. Â

Many of the affected positions are based in New York, and the cuts are part of a broader restructuring effort within ABC News. Several operational changes are being implemented, including:
- Consolidation of “20/20” and “Nightline”: The two long-form news programs will now operate under a single leadership structure, resulting in job losses. Â
- “Good Morning America” Production Streamlining: The production teams for all three hours of “Good Morning America” programming, including “GMA3,” will be combined into one unit. Â
- Closure of 538: Disney is shuttering the data-driven political website 538, which had approximately 15 staff members. Polling and political data analysis will be integrated into ABC News. Â

These layoffs come as Disney, like many other media companies, faces challenges in the evolving media landscape. The company is looking to streamline operations and adapt to changing audience consumption habits. Â
