Honoring Heroes: A Special Disney Day for Families of Fallen Service Members
Disney has long held a deep respect for the sacrifices made by service members and their families, and that admiration was on full display as they recently welcomed families of fallen U.S. and British military heroes for a day of magic at Walt Disney World Resort. For the third time, Disney partnered with the National Football League (NFL) and the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) to host these families ahead of the NFL Pro Bowl in Orlando. The nonprofit organization, dedicated to supporting those who have lost a loved one in military service, provided this special experience as part of a weekend filled with football, remembrance, and healing.

The families, who traveled from across the country and as far as England, began their day at EPCOT, where they were greeted with warmth and excitement. Their adventure kicked off with a thrilling ride on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, an experience made even more memorable by a surprise meet-and-greet with none other than Star-Lord himself. As they zipped through the cosmos on the attraction, smiles and laughter filled the air—creating moments of joy amid a weekend of remembrance.
For the families, the day was about more than just the attractions; it was an opportunity to connect, honor their fallen heroes, and create new memories together. “Today was magical, fun, and filled with surprises for the families of the fallen,” said Diana Roday Hosford, TAPS vice president of Sports & Entertainment. “These incredible Walt Disney World welcomes have become a tradition for TAPS, and being so personal and meaningful, the Disney Salute team makes us feel like family.”

A heartfelt welcome was extended by members of Disney SALUTE, the company’s veteran employee resource group, who understand firsthand the impact of military service and loss. The group, founded over a decade ago, is dedicated to honoring and empowering Disney cast members with military backgrounds while fostering a sense of community and support. Also in attendance were Walt Disney World Ambassadors Serena Arvizu and Shannon Smith-Conrad, both of whom come from military families and deeply understood the significance of the moment. “It’s so important for us to recognize and thank the men and women serving our country, as well as their families, for the sacrifices they make every day,” Shannon shared.
Disney’s commitment to honoring the military extends beyond single events like this one. With a legacy of support dating back to founders Walt and Roy O. Disney—who both served during World War I—the company continues to champion veterans and military families through ongoing initiatives. The relationship with TAPS is just one of the many ways Disney strives to bring comfort, joy, and lasting memories to those who have given so much.

As these families wrapped up their day at Disney and prepared for a weekend of Pro Bowl excitement, the echoes of laughter and shared stories stood as a testament to the healing power of connection. Though their loved ones may be gone, their legacy lives on in the hearts of those they left behind—and in the moments of happiness created through experiences like this.
