Disney Supports Hurricane Relief Efforts in The Bahamas

Disney has teamed up with multiple disaster relief agencies to encourage and support recovery efforts in the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian. The Walt Disney Company recently committed more than $1 million in cash to the Northern Bahamas to support hurricane relief and recovery efforts. This includes several donations to non-profit relief agencies.

Disney is now sharing more about how their $1 million contribution is being used to benefit the people of The Bahamas. Disney just teamed up with three non-profit agencies – the American Red Cross, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), and All Hands and Hearts.

Disney provides the American Red Cross with $250,000 to support its on-the-ground relief efforts. These efforts include the delivery of food staples and construction materials. Disney is also encouraging its employees to donate to the American Red Cross as well. All eligible employees’ donations were matched, dollar for dollar, through the Disney Employee Matching Gifts program.

Next, Disney donated another $250,000 to UNICEF. UNICEF’s efforts help provide lifesaving supplies and psychosocial support for children and adolescents affected by the hurricane. UNICEF is also working closely with The Bahamas Ministry of Education to register 10,000 displaced students in schools. Registered students will receive medical care, uniforms, lunch assistance, counseling services, and free bus transportation.

Lastly, Disney has contributed $500,000 to All Hands and Hearts towards rebuilding community schools in Abaco. All Hands and Hearts is made up of volunteers who address the short and long-term needs of communities affected by natural disasters.

Disney Cruise Line cast and crew members have worked hard to provide relief to those impacted by Hurricane Dorian. DCL employees assembled more than 1,500 Clean the World personal hygiene kits. The Disney Dream even delivered these kits to Nassau where they were distributed to shelters that house evacuees from Abaco and Grand Bahama.

The Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy took food, water, medical supplies, cleaning supplies, generators, and construction materials to the affected islands too. Disney has also donated another $500,000 for its Bahamian-based crew members who live in the impacted areas.
