Disney shares update with guests that Complimentary MagicBands Will No Longer Be Provided

Beginning in 2021, Disney World will no longer provide complimentary MagicBands for guests with a resort stay. We have been wondering how guests checking in January 1st and later will be able to access the parks and get their Key to the World Cards. Disney is sending out emails reminding guests to stop by the front desk to pick those up.

Below is a sample of the guest communication from Disney:

“Your Walt Disney World vacation is right around the corner and we can’t wait to welcome you here! But before you go, we wanted to send you this helpful reminder.

MagicBands will no longer be provided complimentary to Disney Resort hotel Guests with arrivals beginning January 1, 2021. For Disney Resort hotel room entry, Theme Park entry and charging purchases to your hotel room with a valid credit card, you may use a Key To The World card (provided at the Front Desk). Or, you may use a MagicBand from a past visit or purchase a MagicBand prearrival.

In addition, we highly recommend using our Online Check-In/Direct-to-Room service, which allows you to get to the fun faster with real-time, room-ready updates. Sign up for room ready notifications and use the MyDisneyExperience app as a digital room key to enter your Disney Resort hotel room. The app is also a great tool to help you plan before and during your visit.

Thanks for your time. See ya real soon!”

Check out some helpful tips to consider before your stay in 2021:

  • Want to use a MagicBand? You can purchase a MagicBand online and at select merchandise locations at Walt Disney World Resort. Guests will have the option to purchase MagicBands up to 10 days before arrival at special pre-arrival prices. These MagicBands can be personalized with different colors, Disney Characters and themes—and can even be customized with your name.
  • Already have a MagicBand from a previous visit? You can reuse your MagicBand. However, to ensure access to all MagicBand benefits, including certain Disney PhotoPass Service benefits, you may want to purchase a new MagicBand.
  • Prefer not to use a MagicBand? At your convenience, swing by the Front Desk of your Disney Resort hotel to pick up a Key to the World card, which can be used in lieu of a MagicBand.
  • Use convenient Online Check-In service and Direct-to-Room service, which allows you to get to the fun faster with real-time, room-ready updates—and even lets you use the My Disney Experience app as a digital room key at your Disney Resort hotel.
