Disney Shares That Live-Action ‘Aladdin‘ Sequel Will NOT Follow ‘Return of Jafar‘ Storyline. John Gatins and Andrea Berloff are hard at work penning a script for the live-action Aladdin sequel, which is being reported to be it’s own sequel and will NOT follow the storyline of the established animated sequel Aladdin: The Return of Jafar.
According to Variety, Naomi Scott, Mena Massoud, and Will Smith have yet to be asked to reprise their roles as Jasmine, Aladdin, and Genie, but will likely be given an offer after an official script is approved by Disney.
Disney has also confirmed the film will receive a theatrical release, not the previously believed premiere on their exclusive streaming service, Disney+. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are set to return to produce the sequel, it is currently unknown if Guy Richie will return to direct Aladdin 2.
