Disney Soon to Reveal NextGen Details

Disney’s secrecy about the “Next Generation Experience” has been going on for several years as they protect their technology, future plans and reputation. But, all that is about to come to an end says Walt Disney co. executives that are announcing plans to reveal more concrete details early next year.

“Because we’re in the testing phase to make sure the technology is working the way we both expect and need it to work, we’ve been hesitant to roll out more details to you, and to the public, for that matter,” Disney Co. President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger said during a conference call with analysts last week to discuss Disney’s fiscal fourth-quarter earnings. “There has been a fair amount of chatter about the features of this technological advancement or investment, but we’ve been hesitant to give details … before it’s ready for prime time, so to speak.”

One reason that Disney is being cornered to reveal more information is from Wall Street. As “NextGen” is costing more than $1 billion dollars in research and development, analysts are insisting on more information. Currently, Wall Street analysts have only been privy to the very high-level details, regarding “NextGen”, including a new system that will allow guests to reserve ride and show times from home and to bypass hotel check-in desks when they arrive in Orlando. Analysts are pressing for more details as the high cost of this project is at least temporarily eroding profitability. Even the great success of “Cars Land” at Disney California Adventure was offset by higher costs at Walt Disney World.

All this Wall Street murmurings means we are going to get more information on “NextGen” soon, including finding out more about those wristbands! What do you think “NextGen” is going to offer? Are you looking forward to some new technology at Disney?

  1. If it makes the turnstile experience more positive, then I am all for it. People just can’t seem to figure out the ticket and fingerprint thing.
