Disney Receives Honors From AZA

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) recently honored Disney Parks during its recent Seattle conference.

Both the Animal Kingdom and The Seas With Nemo and Friends at EPCOT were recognized by  AZA  recognized for their conservation efforts awarding them the William G. Conway International Conservation Award. This prestigious award is given to organizations who make great strides in habitat preservation, species restoration and biodiversity in the wild through the Disney Conservation Fund.

Dr. Mark Penning, vice president of Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment said of the award,  “As we continue to recognize the 20th anniversary of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we have great pride in the DCF and its success in saving wildlife, inspiring action and protecting the planet. Through the fund and the talented Cast of the DCF and ASE, we have supported a diverse range of conservation projects around the world, protecting more than 400 species and habitats.”


Dr. Penning was also honored personally at the conference when he became the third ever Disney executive to be appointed to the AZA Board of Directors.

Significant Achievement awards were also presented to Disney for their continued support of conservation projects helping save okapis and lowland tapirs in the wild.
