Disney Quick Tips – Prepare For Rain

rain

Rain in Florida is very common. In fact, it rains at Walt Disney World almost everyday. Many days, the rain only lasts for 30 minutes or so. But sometimes the wet weather will last all day. Whether it rains all day or just for a few minutes, you should come to Disney prepared to experience rain.

Ponchos are great for dealing with the Florida weather! They fold up small enough to fit in camera bags and allow you to keep having fun at the parks without getting soaking wet. If you’re traveling with a stroller, you can put the poncho over your stroller to keep the seat from getting wet outside while you’re inside an attraction. In order to save money, you can purchase ponchos at home and bring them with you to Disney. Or if you’re like me and travel to Walt Disney World often, you may want to purchase ponchos at the parks. The price will be higher, but I think having a Mickey poncho makes a day in the rain a little more fun! The amount of use you’ll get over multiple trips makes it a little more worth it to pay the higher Disney price.

If you don’t want to deal with ponchos, or perhaps forgot them in the hotel room, you can still have fun at Disney during the rain. Most days, the rain will not last for long. When it starts raining, just head to a nearby indoor attraction or store. Shows are a great way to wait out the rain. You will find several great shows at each Disney park. Many of the shows are around 20  – 30 minutes long. So, by the time the show is over, it will probably be finished raining! Gift shops can be found all throughout Walt Disney World. If it starts raining, chances are you’re already close to a store. Just stop by a store to look around until the rain stops.  Many of the stores, such as the ones on Main Street, U.S.A. are connected. So you can visit multiple stores without having to go outside in the rain.

  1. Thanks for the reminder about ponchos! I actually like playing out in the rain so would probably be willing to brave it and catch a better place in ride lines. I’d only be concerned about lightning. THAT would definitely drive me indoors!

  2. You are right! I found my Disney ponchos in the closet the other day. The yellow ponchos from years ago are much thicker and very well made. I also have one of the newer clear ponchos from a couple years ago. It is extremely thin. I could definitely see one of those ripping easily. But it’s good to hear that Disney will replace it if it tears! Thanks for letting us know!

  3. We prefer the very thin Dollar Tree ponchos as they can be rolled up VERY small and will fit into a fanny pack or even your pocket.

  4. Just wanted to say that the WDW ponchos tear easily, but I have read that if yours tears you can return it to any store that sells them and they will replace it. I have also read that you can do this even if it is from a previous trip.
